Are there any hispanic/latino websites out there focusing on commonalities among hispanics/latinos?

Hello,

I was wondering if there are any websites out there focusing on: newsworthy events, politics, lifestyle, etc., from a hispanic/latino perspective with the added twist of focusing on commonalities among hispanics/latinos rather than on differences? For example, I know Latina.com (offshoot of Latina magazine) is a lifestyle, fashion, popular culture, etc. website for hispanic/latino women primarily, but are there any websites for ALL Latinos that focus on popular issues as well as more serious matter?

Also, it seems that my friends and relatives are often divided along nationalistic lines and that gets in the way of hispanic/latino unity. So I'm very interested in any sites that address the unity question, too. I don't have statistics(does anyone know where I can get some?) on the size of the hispanic/latino market that's online, but it seems like it would be huge and that there is a gap in the market for a site that addresses my questions above.

Thanks,

Rose J.

Check out www.IAHMP.org for Hispanics in the Meetings, Events, Travel and Hospitality industry. IAHMP is not limited to Hispanics as anyone can join. We have chapters in Mexico, and Portugal.

Size of Hispanics in the USA is approx. 47 million if you include Puerto Rico. Hispanic Purchasing Power is over $900 Billion annually, making Hispanics the 8th most important market in the world. According to Hispanic Trends magazine (US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce) there are more Hispanics in the USA than all the people in Canada

Check out www.NCLR.org for data on the Hispanics in the USA.

I just completed some research for a client on hispanic/Latino on line presence and came up with a range of 17 to 22 million. This is growing considerably with the younger generations as a result of social networking sites. An interesting find during this research is that a growing number of Hispanics born in the US prefer web sites in Spanish, or popular English sites with a Spanish language option.

hello. miapogeo.com sounds like the kind of website you're seeking. they cover not only entertainment but also politics and issues that affect the community.

they also house the world's first Latino Wikipedia called WikiLatino.com.

Hi Rose,

This company www.ventanabierta.com is a site that is dedicated to helping the Latino community within the USA with their current and/or future debt. By combining forces within the community they hope to procure government funding though programs like TALF to help Latinos in securing loans, etc. Check it out. It might be something that you are interested in.
