Bilingual & Hispanic jobs / career social networking | LatPro

Hi,

I am currently working as a consultant on a health disparities initiative for the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid. It's a great initiative whereby the agency is trying to improve the quality of care for underserved Medicare populations. My question to you is this: What do you think is the best way to reach Spanish-speaking Medicare beneficiaries. Is it a) traditional printed material i.e. magazines, newspapers (if yes, please list magazine or newspaper). b) reaching their caregivers (if so what method) c) radio, d) television, if so which program.

Of course, my approach will be to use a multi-channel approach incorporating all of these options, however, I wanted to hear from my Latino network what you thought was the best way to reach my targeted audience.

Thank you in advance for responding.

The problem usually is that when a brochure or any informational piece has to be translated it stops at just translating the language. We must take greater care to translate the culture as well. Marketing must go
beyond language putting more emphasis on culture. Hispanic/Latinos like to see people in their ads. Broadcast is a more effective medium than print; TV is #1, followed by radio, but both print and the Internet are growing
Taken from : Designing Across Cultures, How to Create Effective Graphics for Diverse Ethnic Groups by Ronnie Lipton. As a graphic Designer I understand that even special care has to be taken in type treatment. Hope this helps
