US Companies in Mexico/Companías Estadounidenses en México

Hello everyone:
I am a bilingual professional currently teaching EFL (English as a Foreign Language) courses at a public university in Yucatán, México. I have 2 years of teaching experience and hold degrees in both Spanish and Spanish education. I also have extensive work with customer service, administration services, and translations. At the end of my 2-year contract, I unfortunately must move back to the U.S. since the peso salary here in Mexico isn't so great. So, my question is this: does anyone know of U.S. companies in Mexico that are currently hiring?
A mí me gusta muchísima México y quisiera quedarme acá.

Hello Andrea,
I am very happy and at the same time sad. Happy because you are doing exactly what I wanted to do for a very long time, and that is not only teach English, but polish the English of professionals coming to do business here in the states.and I am sad, because after reading your profile, I realize that my software training experience pales in comparison to your experience.... that, and the fact that the peso is not doing so good right about now....

If you don't mind my asking, how did you obtain your contract??? and, if there is any feedback that you could provide about teaching in Mexico, will be very much appreciated.

Thank you for your time,

There are a lot of American companies in Mexico; may I suggest you contact the US Embassy and the US/Mexico Chamber of Commerce in Mexico City.

The Queretaro City Metropolitan area is also another place you can check; due to its geographical position it is a good distribution and manufacturing center (Black & Decker comes to mind).

Hello,

I'm in a similar situation. I live in Puebla, Mexico and teach English at the UDLAP. I'm originally from Ohio and am looking for employment in the US again. If you hear of any opportunities, please let me know. I'm more interested in working in San Diego California than Ohio. craigslist.org has a lot of job offers for any state.

Hello Andrea,

I am Michael Burlette, Training and Instruction Manager for Texas Teaching Fellows. We are the premier alternative ceritification organization in Texas. Basically we recruit high caliber professionals from all areas and provide them the training and certification to teach in Texas Public schools. We are specifically seeking bilingual candidates for our program who have a burning desire to do whatever is necessary to help hispanic children succeed in school. While we provide job placement assistance and have placed 100% of our bilingual Fellows historically, we don't hire you directly. The training is rigorous but our goal would be to have you placed as a fully paid teacher in Texas schools by August. Starting salaries typically range from 40 to 46k. The training you take in summer is unpaid however and lasts 6 weeks. Requirements are a bachelors degree in any field, permission to work in the US and complete out screening and interview process. If you need more info visit our website at www.texasteachingfellows.org.

I work for a small American company providing quality services in Mexico but, we pay the going rate for the area. The more north you go in Mexico the more the pay, however, there are now risk you need to consider as well. Is your intent to stay in Mexico if so what areas are you considering?

Hi Carlos.

My intent is to stay in Mexico, but the problem is that a peso-based salary just isn't paying the U.S. bills anymore. Right now it seems that I must head back state-side.

I would consider ANY area of work in Mexico. I would love to be able to use my customer service and communication skills. I have checked out craigslist.com and the chamber of commerce. Where in Mexico is your company located?

Hi Mario:

After completion of my student teaching in Mérida, my supervisor offered me a job. (She just happens to be the president of the university.) If you are interested, I would check out the Universidad de Modelo. They are a well-established university and continue opening new locations throughout Mexico.

Oh my gosh, Mexico is WONDERFUL! Though I guess it depends WHERE, exactly, you are planning to move. I live in the Yucatán, so things around here are different from the rest of the country.

Thank you for the website recommendations. I know NC has a pretty large (and ever-growing) Latino population... it'd be perfect.

Hello,

Wow, this is interesting reading everybody's comments here.

I'm actually living in Mexico right now helping take care of an elderly relative and I can relate wanting to stay in Mexico but not being able to because of not being able to earn enough money.

Good luck Andrea! Suerte! :) I'm sure you will find something that will work out for you so you can stay in Mexico querido. :) I have always wanted to visit Yucatan. I saw some images of Merida on TV the other day and I can't believe how beautiful it is. Mexico is so rich in architecture and natural beauty.

Un saludo,
Mari

Hi Kyle,

I actually studied at the UDLAP twenty five years ago. :) I am also considering relocating to San Diego as I feel that it has the best of both worlds...I am half Mexican and I feel like San Diego might be the best place for me if I have to return to the States. I have a BA in Spanish. Right now I am looking at non-profit jobs.

Good luck! Buena suerte!

Un saludo, regards,
Mari

Hello Andrea,
I live in the same state as you, but currently am looking for employment within the electrical mechanic field or any Electrical fieldfield, but I would accept almost anything right now. I would like to find a job of this within an airport.

any suggestions?

I recently registered at this website and it might help you or others. It's a site similar to monster.com but in mexico.
