In April 2009 she received National Association of Women Business Owners “Make the Connection Award” for her volunteer work in the civic community.

Carla is also the Founder, Producer, Promoter and DJ of Global Beats (www.globalbeatspitt.com) which helps build bridges across different cultures through world music events by working with local organizations such as Colombia en Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Urban Management Project (PUMP), Turkish Professional Association, Guitar Society of Fine Arts (GSFA), Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, CMU Graduate Student Organization and the Latin American Cultural Union.

Global Beats received grants form the Heinz Endowments and the Multicultural Arts initiative and was featured

In June 2008, it hosted its first ever outdoor event as part of the Stay and Play series in Market Square bringing the renowned artists Nation Beat from NYC and Javier Garcia from Miami. In December 2009 Global Beats partnered with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and hosted a New Year’s Bash in the Cabaret Theater, in the cultural district of Pittsburgh, sponsored by Lanxess Corporation and the Multicultural Arts Initiative.
