Bilingual & Hispanic jobs / career social networking | LatPro

Hi, there...

I am back to Brazil, after spending a year in India, and looking for opportunities in USA (Retail and Malls industries). In fact, I've received contact form US companies interested in my profile, however it has been difficult to get an H1B VISA.

Here most of positions I can apply, I must be eligilbe to work in US, also provide my Social Security #m which I don't have one yet!

It has been a big barrier for me, I worked for an American company in 2005/06 in India and they are offering me opportunities only far from US (their headoffice is in New Jersey) because they are also facing problems in getting H1B VISA for their employees...

I have R2B Visa, can go anytime to US for a meeting/interview before applying for the suitable VISA...

What do you think about that?

I have a company in Brazil and could be recruited/hired as a firm - Service Provider too... Would it be an easier way?

Any clue is welcome...

Thanks,
Angelica

Hello Angelica,
Unfortunately in many instances it is like the "chicken and egg" what is first. It has changed a lot the process to get a SS#. Currently you need to be a permanent resident to get one; several years ago any one with proper ID could get one (even with a passport). I got one the first time I came in 1993 and I showed my Mexican passport. More recently a friend from Taiwan came to USA in 1998 and was also given a SS#. 911 attack has nothing to do with that.
To get a H1B, a visa for a non immigrant worker, you need a sponsor. That is an employer who is willing to hire you and can prove to the Department of Labor that he/she cannot find suitable people for the position.
One way to get ahead is to show assets like Multilingual, Global Market experience, etc.
Finally, with the economic situation, it is going to be difficult by the time being. Yet continue your scouting and good luck.
I hope this is of any help.

Cheerio:-D !

Angelica,
there may be alternatives other than the H1b for you, especially if you have a company in Brazil. Also the fact that you worked for an American company abroad can help you in getting a visa with them (not an H1b necessarily). Nonetheless, while immigration officers are getting stricter, I am seeing very good and positive results for H1b petitioners. Additionally, for an H1b professional worker visa, the U.S. company does NOT have to establish that it could not locate a qualified U.S. worker. The government also has premium processing for many visas (including the H) and you could have a response from them within 15 days of filing.
I like to say that there are many options for foreigners who wish to come to the States - the most important thing is to know what your objectives are and plan well (you must be persistent and focused).
I will be happy to answer any questions, and also to provide to you documents that summarize different visas so that you can read and learn more about the options that may exist.
Feel free to email me: rcalderaro@visamiami.com

Best regards,
Renata Calderaro
