* I began in sales and marketing when I was about to finish the university and got into what recruiters call "a fast track". I kept growing in the organization chart, sometimes within the same company, sometimes moving to another one.
* I have had these marvelous experiences: Johnson & Johnson, Chesseborough Ponds, Life Savers Mexico, Mattel Mexico, Grupo Industrial Interamericano (men's formal and sportwear) and Freudenberg Household Products (Mexico and Chile). I learned a lot and created a lot in my assignments and also enjoyed having great bosses from whom I gained outstanding learnings and experience: Antonio Torres, Larry Freman, Luis Urrea, Kim Richmond and Sergio Garreti; wherever they are, my recognition and appreciation to them.
* Because of my experience (meaning age) I am planning in going independent, unless some company wants to risk to hire a guy my age (meaning experience).
* Dealing with, professionaly speaking, mentally midget business associates (meaning bosses).
* Mexico City, Mexico.
* Work hard, coach others and enjoy what you are doing.

My name is Jose A. Munguia II and I work in the Hotel and Hospitality Industry. I have been working in hotels for over twenty five years, mainly because of my passion for working with people. I started in one of the best hotel cities, San Francisco, California and have been fortunate to have worked at some of the best hotels on the west coast including the Sir Francis Drake at Union Square in San Francisco. I also worked at the world famous Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego and the R.M.S. Queen Mary Ship in Long Beach. I am presently compleiting my BS in Hotel Management at the UNiversity of Phoenix.

I definitely plan on continuing on this career path and hope to achieve a General Manager's position in a boutique hotel. One of the greatest difficulties for me, despite my years of experience in the undustry has not having the degree in hotel management. This is a hurdle that I have almost lept, I will graduate in November 2010. I am presently an honors student with a 3.92 GPA and a current recipient of the SODEXO Hospitality Scholarship and also a current recipient of the Karen Marquez Institute for Hispanic Professionals Scholarship and Mentorship Program.

I am from El Salvador, but came to the U.S. when I was only eleven months old. I was fortunate to complete a two year contract as a hotel consultant in El Salvador at the Hotel Decameron, one of the most beautiful, white sand beaches and resorts in the country. I am presently seeking employment as an Assistant General Manager for any hotel seeking an innovative hands on manager with vision.

My advice to all is focus on your goals and continue forward, never relenting. Praise God in all you do and he will be faithful to those who honor Him.

Answers:
1. Recent career: I accidentally tripped over law school and fell in.
2. Student: Opened the most doors and still opens doors.
3. Not sure -- legal work can be very rewarding, but very demanding & stressful. Depends on the case.
4. Greatest challenges involve rebalancing injustice, and assisting with entrepreneurship and innovation, which takes me back to the creative world where I came from.
5. I am from the U.S.
6. I haven't met anyone with a similar background. That would be nice. But for creative artists, innovators and entrepreneurs, I would recommend diligence, sincerity, hope and courage. For business people and attorneys, just get the job done well, and be sure to create good will while you're doing it.

How did you get into this profession? Before earning my certification as a project management professional, I served in a diplomatic role between the HP sales force and their customers. It seemed like a natural progression in my career. Now I introduce myself as an international trilingual project management professional -- trilingual because I speak "project," "business," and "technical."

What was the one job you held that most opened doors for you? A contract with AMD's 50x15 program opened doors to conduct business in Sao Paulo and Mexico City. I am fluent in Spanish and interested in developing my Portguese skills.

Do you plan to remain on this career track? Yes. I need to find the right company to make the most of the value I offer.

What are the greatest challenges your profession has presented? Standing up for the "right" decision regardless of the risk to me.

Where are you from? We have settled in to Northern Colorado. I grew up in Virginia and spent my Junior Year Abroad (in college) in Peru.

What is your best piece of advice for those in your line of work? Keep the business goals of your stakeholders in the forefront of your mind.
