I live n Fort Mill, SC. I have been in the translation business for over 17 years, doing technical and scientific, as well as general business translations and simultaneous interpreting. Presently, I've been selling advertising space for bilingual websites but am always looking for interesting long and short-term projects. I'm also looking for frequent opportunities to meet with other like-minded Latinos to just discuss the state of the industry and kick some ideas about bilingual opportunities.

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read my posting. My name is Mario Gustavo, and I have lived in the States for the last 30 years. I started doing translations way back in the 80’s when there wasn’t many Spanish people here in Orlando, Fl. Of course after ’85 we had a serious influx of spanish people and my job got even harder, now I had to contend not only with the Spanish from South America (Castellano), but other variations as well. To make a long story short, I have worked as Software trainer, here in the States, and abroad, (what a great job that was). Also, I’ve done technical writing, but all that is in the past tense. And I would like to get back into the swing of things, even if it means relocating. Again, not matter if it is here or abroad.
If anybody has any suggestions, I would be very much obligated.

I would like to join this group. I am a bilingual therapist for families and bilingual teacher in the state of AZ. I translate materials in my agency and in the schools. I taught medical Spanish for U of AZ in area hospitals under a federal grant 20 years ago as well as translating in AZ courts for World Translation Services. My Spanish is getting rusty now that my husband has learned English! Hi to everyone!

thanks for the advice jesus, i did contact intepreting.com and may find myself doing the state certificate program online, first i am going to one of the classes scheduled online Sept 26th. I had sort of hoped to transfer to a school and get myself to California, but I am still researching options, muchos gracias por todo. rebecca

Jesus, I was wondering how you felt about the Cal State Program, I am considering it, or if anyone has any advice, I have a MA in LING/TESL and am working on my MA in Legal Studies, I also have an add on paralegal. I am native english speaker and my spanish is intermediate, I take academic classes each semester. Would like to transfer to a translation program and it seems the CA courts need lots of translators, do you have any advice in this area or have a contact at CA Uni I could speak to about transfer? I was born in Merida, Yucatan. Mexico. My father was a Jai Alai player and for that reason I have been traveling to and living in many different places. I grew-up and went to school in Mexico City and moved to the US in 1980. I have had many different jobs, for the most part in the Hospitality industry. My last job in that area was as a Director of Operations at a Conference Center.
I am fluent in English and Spanish
I have a Commission as a Notary Public of the State of California and I am currently attending Southern California School of Interpretation to get my Certification as a Court Interpreter. I will be relocating to Seattle WA at the begining of 2010 and will be looking for employment in that area . I would appreciate any help on that.
I have an office that offers translation of documents, interpreting at Inmigration Department appointments, Small Court Claims appointments and Notary Services.
My favorite city in Mexico is Mexico City where I grew-up, but i also like
San Miguel de Allende Gto. very much.
My favorite mexican foof is Mole Poblano
I have lived and worked in different states of Mexico and also lived and worked in Iowa, Texas and California in the US.

I started translating when I had the oppertunity at medical school on a part time at first. There was a Visiting profesor program where we had differet Doctors and professors of medicine would visit us for a week or two. I would be his translator to the students, and for him I would translate simultaneusly, consecutivly or written. It was a lot of fun and challenging. After that as a professional I was official translator for the state of Baja California. I am looking for good connections, and friends.
