d have been practicing immigration law in South Florida for the last ten years. My email address is rcalderaro@visamiami.com There are many ways through which a professional can obtain work visas or even their residency - in fact, some that are not common or very well known, but yet that are in the regulations. I would be happy to give you this information. Saludos, Renata Calderaro, Esq.…

ory Channel. The documentary deals with immigrants in the U.S., and I challenged every viewer to trace back his or her roots and count (in one hand I am sure) how many generations in his family were actually born in the United States. I urge everyone who is interested in seeing the United States grow in a positive way to support immigration reform and to contact their senators and congressmen asking them to pass comprehensive immigration reform. As an immigration attorney (and an immigrant myself), I can tell you that our regulations simply need to be updated. We have a nursing shortage, yet we do not have visas that allow nurses into the country (with limited exceptions). We need investors who can bring in capital from overseas and create jobs, yet Congress has extended the regulation that permits this only until the end of September! I could go on and on, but the reality is that our government needs to look at immigration as the way to the future. At present, we are only barely maintaining status quo in terms of population growth. Our demographics are not helping us grow and improve as a nation. We need immigrants, maybe even more than what people think immigrants need the U.S. I hope you will support positive immigration reform.…

d more so now. Through the process I noticed some oddities, mainly how they treated her. If I had not been present, I wonder how different their response to her would have been. We were probably even lucky in that her citizenship was initially denied because we filed seven days too early. I pursued an appeal and hinted at legal action, and they changed their position. Again, we were probably lucky. What I am getting at is that the immigration system will not be fixed by merely reworking the immigration laws. The immigration laws, as they currently stand are already extremely convoluted, just look at the number of visa types available. Then look at the different rules governing immigration from each country. I personally enjoy the richness of the immigrant population. However, to have effective reform we need to look at the basis for immigration in its totality. What I mean is immigration is an issue of Schools, Health Care, Welfare, and jobs. All these factors play into immigration. This is why "coyotes" and "human traffickers", as an example, make so much money transporting people. The hope for a better life. I don't necessarily have the answers on how to reform the system. What I do believe though is that immigrant population is here to stay and that we benefit from the diversity. We now only need to give the benefit of legal status to those that are already working here. The other area I think we should reform is what we consider criminal. This is what I found odd in how they treated my wife. While some were professional, many treated her almost as a criminal. The interesting thing is that many who truly commit the illegal activities, i.e. "coyotes" go unoticed. So yes, I am in favor of reform. Just the reform that would look beyond immigration and to the other needs/motivators; education, healthcare, and jobs. Just my opinion. Enjoy,…
