Angie Amarillas Mortemore was born and raised in the town of Peoria, Arizona. Growing up the daughter of migrant workers, she has a deep understanding of how important it is to pursue an education. Angie is passionate about the academic needs of our underprivileged youth. She is currently employed at the Pendergast District where she implements The Boys Town Education Model program in the classroom. Angies’ philosophy is “It takes a village to raise a child, but it takes leaders in our community to make them successful.” Angie is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Social Work at Arizona State University. Angie plans on working toward her Masters in Business Administration.
In addition to NSHMBA Angie is also a member of the Chapter 1 National Association of Social Workers. Angie devotes her time as the Volunteer Chair for the largest Hispanic Women’s Conference that raises funds for scholarships for the Latino population. Over her academic career, she was active with the SuperBowl Host Committee XVII where she assisted the Arizona Cardinals in promoting substance awareness football clinics for youth at risk. Angie also collaborates with the Phoenix Suns to provide the less fortunate youth with Suns tickets as an incentive.
Angie shares her strengths and accomplishments in an article published in May, 2007 Latino Perspectives magazine.
