Hi Rodrigo,

You must have been under tremendous pressure when the real estate market went down, but, as they say, you're still "Vivito y coleado". One thing that I've learned is life is that no one, no matter how prepared or proactive, can avoid change that is out of his or her control ... and change will come. My daughter, Leah's, hearing deficit and our response to it is an excellent example. Never could we have imagined moving to Washington, D.C., but now we do it with hope because know our priorities, and this mitigates (to some degree) the stress that comes with the move. Did you ever read the book, "Who Took My Cheese?" by Spencer Johnson? Someone suggested it to me because it deals with this topic in a useful way, through a parable that allows the reader to consider what he or she would have done in a similar situation.

Thanks for writing back,

Hector

Hola Rodrigo,

I appreciated your getting back to me so soon. How long have you been living in Washington, D.C.? I've been in Boston since 1991, so the move will not be easy ... but then again, I'm from an immigrant family, and we moved several times when I was growing up, most notably from Argentina to the U.S. My wife, Tanja, and I are uprooting this time because of our daughter, Leah, who just got accepted to the River School, an elementary school that integrates children with hearing deficits with normally hearing children. Leah is a beautiful girl, who was born with a hearing impediment and recently received a cochlear implant. We're very happy for the opportunity, but now we have to network and find jobs and a place to stay ...

I see that you're from Colombia and self-employed. What brought you and your family to this country? EEUU, la tierra de oportunidades infinitas ... el maximo anzuelo. I'm looking forward to hearing from you again.

Con afecto,

Hector
