LatPro.com and MAES Award Scholarship to Latina Electrical Engineering Student at the University of New Mexico
FT. LAUDERDALE, FL – November 16, 2006 – LatPro.com, the premier job board for Hispanic and bilingual professionals, is proud to announce its award of $2,500 to Lillian Acosta as part of the Society of Mexican American Engineers and Scientists Scholarship Program.
By recognizing the potential of talented Hispanic students and giving them the opportunity to pursue college degrees, MAES scholarships foster the diversity and minority participation that is essential to the future success of U.S. science, technology and engineering.
“We are pleased to join MAES in its efforts to develop the next generation of diverse engineers and scientists.”, says Eric Shannon, President and Founder of LatPro. “We are especially proud to help such a deserving student as this year's scholarship winner, Lillian Acosta.”
The first recipient of the LatPro-MAES Scholarship, Lillian Acosta is a junior at the University of New Mexico majoring in Electrical Engineering with a minor in mathematics. Born in Mexico, Lillian came to the U.S. at the age of 10, and she is the first member of her family to attend college. LatPro is happy to be able to help her get one step closer to graduation.
“I am extremely thankful to LatPro for the $2,500 scholarship that I received at the MAES conference in Houston, Texas,” writes Ms. Acosta. “The United States has given my family a second chance to achieve our dreams and for that reason I am determined to become a professional that helps the U.S succeed and be a role model for my Hispanic community.”
