PeopleTek Career Tip - Changing role of a leader

"In my working life, I have found no greater satisfaction than achieving success through honest dealings and strict adherence to the view that for you to (profit), those you deal with should (profit), as well".
- Alan Greenspan
Dear Leaders,

Business and competition is tough. The economy is impacting individuals, organizations and even entire industries. With the changing times, the role of a leader is also changing.

In the past several weeks we've talked about 4 of the 5 P's of leadership; Passion, Persistence, People, and Process. Today the topic is PROFIT.

The role of a leader is more important than ever and the expectation is almost that "you must be everything to everyone". First off, we need to know that's not possible. What we can do however is be clear about our strengths and the strengths of our team members.

Numerous times we've shared the need to have a clear vision and meaningful goals that each team member can understand and support. You the leader must also define the work ethic and create your "dream team". Having the right resources will enable you to get desired results and be profitable. You as the leader can also define hard work and core values for the entire team. You can:
Have a high level of integrity

Build trust

Establish best practices

Enhance relationships

Encourage networking across teams and organizations

Inspire and motivate

Know your customer needs

Stress innovation and take time to brainstorm new ideas and processes

Consistently reward and recognize based on successfully attaining goals

As a leader setting the work ethic, having a balance between work and home life, living a core set of values, and expecting no more of others than you expect from yourself will serve you well.

Wishing you success with the 5 P's of Leadership and remember to celebrate your successes and be willing to invest in yourself!

Sincerely,
Michael W. Kublin and Jan Mayer-Rodriguez
