Bilingual & Hispanic jobs / career social networking | LatPro

Does anybody now where there are good job leads in this economy for the educated Latino community? San Diego is a tough market and unfortunately with all the problems around the Border, being Latino has become unpopular lately. Even with an MBA and 10yrs of verifiable experience in Management has resulted in only minimal opportunities with average salaries in the San Diego area. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Liane is correct - being bilingual is a hot commodity for most industries. Definitely something to play up on your resume and in your job search.

It's bad all over, but there are still openings in the educational field, and people who are bilingual are particularly valuable. This field encompasses not just teaching, but publishing and assessment - testing has grown in importance ever since No Child Left Behind passed.

My position was recently eliminated, so I can relate. I have been researching the job market and it's currently flooded with high profile professional with nowhere to turn. Obviously Companies are laying-off not hiring It's a stale market. There's a demand for health professionals and now would seem like the ideal time to put on my recruiting hat and work that segment.

Hi Marcos - unfortunately the economy is affecting all members of the community. From blue collar to white collar regardless of background. As a seasoned recruiter, it's been very eye opening the past few months to see who is attending job fairs looking for work. I am seeing construction workers, teachers, retirees, IT professionals, executives, and many others. It doesn't matter whether you have a high school diploma or an MBA, it's a tough job market. Many people are taking a step back and taking entry level or lower level positions to get a foot in the door of companies that are hiring. My company is hiring people that are willing to do this because we do promote from within for many of our positions. So it may only be a step back for a short time as great employees will move forward quickly.
